"I faked confidence in God's provision for decades—I was always secretly terrified and controlling."
How it sounds in your head: I smiled and said 'God will provide' while secretly panicking and trying to control every financial detail. I preached trust while hoarding, quoted Scripture about provision while losing sleep over money. I was a fraud standing in front of church potlucks testifying about God's faithfulness while my stomach churned with fear.
"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"
-- Mark 9:24Source: trauma - You survived the Depression, world wars, economic collapses—and the enemy uses survival instincts as evidence of fraudulent faith rather than evidence of normal human response to trauma.
You remember every sleepless night, every moment of panic, every penny you counted obsessively—and it feels like proof that your verbal faith was performance while your actual faith was nonexistent.
This widow was literally preparing her last meal before she and her son starved to death—maximum financial terror and control (rationing final resources). Yet she obeyed Elijah's word, and her oil and flour never ran out through the entire famine.
I REFUSE the lie that faith mixed with fear equals fraudulent faith. IT IS WRITTEN that a man cried 'I believe; help my unbelief' and Jesus honored BOTH as real faith. My trembling trust was TRUST, even when my hands shook. Every time I said 'God will provide' while my stomach churned, I was prophesying TRUTH over my circumstances, and that's what faith DOES. IT IS WRITTEN that the BARAK blessing means the Lord commands blessing on my storehouses, and He HAS—for ninety years I've had food, shelter, provision, often in ways I couldn't have orchestrated. My controlling wasn't proof of no faith; it was proof I was human, and God used me ANYWAY. I am blessed coming in and going out, and the Father has never once let me starve despite every fear I've carried.
The Father is showing you NOW what He saw THEN—not a fraud with fake faith, but a terrified daughter doing her best to trust a Father who was already providing before she even asked. Every meal you panicked over, He had already prepared; every bill you lost sleep about, He had already covered.
