"I don't actually deserve this position. Someone more talented should have it, and they'll figure that out soon."
How it sounds in your head: You look around the room—college, the team, the job—and everyone seems like they belong except you. You're convinced the admissions officer made a mistake, the coach will realize you're not that good, or your boss will find someone better. You're just keeping the seat warm until the real guy shows up.
"And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together."
-- Romans 8:17Religious lie that God's blessings must be earned through superior performance, combined with world's merit-based system.
He's been taught his whole life that you earn your spot through being the best, so when he gets opportunities despite flaws, it doesn't compute. He compares his behind-the-scenes mess to everyone else's polished exterior and assumes he snuck in through the back door.
Mephibosheth was crippled, hiding in obscurity, convinced he deserved nothing. King David summoned him, restored ALL of Saul's land to him, and gave him a permanent seat at the king's table—not because Mephibosheth earned it, but because of covenant with Jonathan.
I REFUSE the lie that someone more deserving should have my position. IT IS WRITTEN that I am an heir of God and joint heir with Christ. I don't deserve it—JESUS does, and I'm hidden in Him. My seat at this table is COVENANT, not competition. IT IS WRITTEN that the blessing of Abraham is mine through Christ—I'm blessed coming in and going out, above only and not beneath. Like Mephibosheth, I didn't earn the king's table, but covenant put me there permanently. I am QUALIFIED by His blood, APPOINTED by His purpose, and SECURED by His faithfulness. The Father didn't make a mistake when He opened this door—He's been planning my entrance since before the foundation of the world.
You're Mephibosheth—crippled, hiding, convinced you deserve nothing. But the King isn't looking for the most talented; He's looking for COVENANT SONS. He's already set your place at the table, restored your inheritance, and commanded His servants to treat you like royalty—not because you impressed Him, but because He LOVES you.
