"I failed at my sport or talent, so I missed God's plan for my life."
How it sounds in your head: I used to be good at this, and everyone thought it was my 'thing.' Now I'm benched, cut from the team, or just not good enough. It feels like I had one shot at God's plan and I blew it. Everyone else is succeeding at their thing, but I failed at mine.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
-- Jeremiah 29:11Source: World's performance system that says your identity and calling are tied to success in one area, contradicting God's multi-faceted purposes.
Coaches, parents, and peers all affirmed you in this area, so failure feels like losing your identity and your purpose simultaneously. If this was your 'gift from God,' then losing it feels like losing His plan.
Moses tried to deliver Israel at age 40 through murder (his own plan) and FAILED so badly he fled to the desert for 40 YEARS as a shepherd. At 80—when he was way 'past his prime'—God called him to ACTUALLY deliver Israel, and he did miracles that changed history.
I REFUSE the lie that failing at one thing means I missed God's plan for my life. IT IS WRITTEN that God's thoughts toward me are of PEACE, to give me a FUTURE and a HOPE—not a one-shot deal I can blow. Moses 'failed' at 40 and succeeded at 80. IT IS WRITTEN that God's calling is IRREVOCABLE, and He works ALL things together for good for those who love Him. My identity isn't 'athlete' or 'musician'—it's BELOVED SON, SEATED IN HEAVENLY PLACES, with GOOD WORKS prepared before I was born. This 'failure' isn't the end of my story; it's a CHAPTER in a story the Father is writing. I am ON PURPOSE, ON TIME, and ON TRACK for everything He's planned.
The Father isn't panicking because you got cut from the team—He's already prepared the NEXT thing, and your 'failure' is actually positioning you for it. Moses' 40-year detour wasn't wasted time; it was PREPARATION for the real assignment.
