"I exhaust everyone around me with my needs. I should just handle things alone."
How it sounds in your head: I see my husband's face when I need to talk again. I watch my friends' body language shift when I'm struggling. I've become the 'needy' one in every relationship. Maybe if I stopped asking for help, people would actually want to be around me.
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up."
-- Ecclesiastes 4:9-10Enemy + religion: Twisting community design into self-sufficiency shame.
You've felt the shift when you express need - the sighs, the advice that feels like dismissal, the people who ghost when you're not 'fun' anymore. Society celebrates independent women and mocks those who need support.
He couldn't walk and needed FOUR FRIENDS to carry him on a mat, dig through a ROOF, and lower him to Jesus - maximum inconvenience. Jesus didn't rebuke the neediness. He saw their FAITH, healed him INSTANTLY, and forgave his sins. Need invited MIRACLE.
I REFUSE the lie that my needs exhaust the people God assigned to my life. IT IS WRITTEN that two are better than one, and the body of Christ is DESIGNED for mutual support, not self-sufficiency. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus - FULLY LOVED in my humanity, not despite it. The BARAK blessing covers me coming in and going out - INCLUDING when I need help coming in and support going out. IT IS WRITTEN that we are to bear one another's burdens, and my vulnerability gives others the PRIVILEGE of Christlikeness. I am not too much. I am BELOVED in my need.
The Father is NOT keeping score of how many times you've needed help - He's CELEBRATING that you're finally letting people love you the way He does. He's running toward you with the FOUR FRIENDS who will tear through roofs for you, not the fair-weather ones who wanted you shiny.
