"I don't need organized religion—I can worship God on my own terms."
How it sounds in your head: I feel closer to God hiking alone than sitting in a service. Why do I need a building, a membership, people who don't really know me? My faith is personal. I read my Bible, I pray. The institution is man-made anyway. Sunday morning I'm better off at the lake.
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
-- Hebrews 10:24-25Source: Blend of individualistic culture plus legitimate wounds from church systems, now weaponized to isolate you from the breakthrough in community.
You genuinely do encounter God in solitude, and corporate church felt stale or wounding by comparison. Independence feels like freedom after years of religious obligation.
Elijah said 'I alone am left' after massive victory, running to a cave in suicidal isolation. God said 'I have 7,000 who haven't bowed to Baal—you're NOT alone.' Elijah's next breakthrough came through Elisha, a relationship he would've missed staying isolated. God sent him BACK to people.
I REFUSE the lie that I can thrive spiritually in isolation. IT IS WRITTEN not to forsake assembling together because I need others and they need me. Elijah thought he was alone and God corrected him—there were 7,000 he didn't know about. IT IS WRITTEN that iron sharpens iron and two are better than one. I am a BRANCH connected to the Vine, but I'm also part of a BODY. The BARAK blessing flows through covenant relationships. My breakthrough is connected to the family I haven't fully embraced yet. I'm walking back into community where my gifts will flourish.
The Father isn't demanding religious attendance—He's inviting you to family where your breakthrough is waiting. He designed you FOR connection, not isolation. The lake is beautiful, but your Elisha is in the assembly.
