"I don't need organized religion—I can have a personal relationship with God on my own."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus didn't have a building or a denomination. I can worship in nature, pray on my own, read the Bible without a sermon. Why do I need a church when I have God?
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
-- Hebrews 10:24-25Source: independence bred by American individualism and enemy strategy to isolate you from the covering and accountability of the Body.
You've had powerful moments with God alone—on a hike, in your room, driving with worship music. Those felt more real than any Sunday service with its programs and performance. Why complicate what feels pure?
Elijah isolated in a cave after defeating 450 prophets, convinced he was the ONLY one left faithful to God—God told him there were 7,000 others who hadn't bowed to Baal. Elijah's isolation bred depression and distorted perspective; God's answer was COMMUNITY and a successor named Elisha.
I REFUSE the lie that I don't need the Body of Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that I do not forsake assembling with believers because iron sharpens iron and a coal alone grows cold. Yes, I have a personal relationship with Jesus, but He also gave me a FAMILY—and I need what they carry. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a member of the Body, fitly joined together, and I cannot say 'I don't need you.' The BARAK blessing functioned in FAMILY—Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, twelve tribes—covenant is corporate, not just individual. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and I walk in the strength, accountability, and encouragement of the assembly, because the Day is approaching and I will not face it ALONE.
The Father isn't asking you to choose between personal intimacy and corporate gathering—He's inviting you to BOTH. He runs to you in the secret place AND in the assembly, and He's building a family around you that will carry you when you can't carry yourself, fight for you when you're too weak to fight, and remind you who you are when the enemy whispers lies.
