"I don't need church—I can have a relationship with God on my own."
How it sounds in your head: Church just complicates things with drama, expectations, and hurt. I'll do morning devotionals, listen to worship music, and pray on my own. I'm safer spiritually without the mess of people.
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
-- Hebrews 10:24-25Source: Isolation masquerading as independence, based on legitimate wounds but resulting in cutting off the very connection God designed for protection and growth.
You've been burned, and solitude genuinely feels safer than risking being wounded again by imperfect people in a church setting. Plus, you CAN connect with God alone, so it seems reasonable.
Elijah isolated in a cave, convinced he was the only one left serving God, ready to die alone. God told him there were 7,000 others who hadn't bowed to Baal and sent him to anoint Elisha as his companion—instant transition from isolation to partnership and purpose.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm safer isolated from the Body of Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that we are not to forsake assembling together but to exhort one another, especially as the Day approaches. Isolation feels safe, but it's a trap—the enemy wants me alone because I'm easier prey. IT IS WRITTEN that a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE, and I need the other branches. I carry the BARAK blessing—I am blessed coming in and going out. God is leading me to GRACE-FILLED community where I am known, loved, protected, and celebrated.
The Father is running toward you saying, 'I see why you're hiding, but I have a family that will fight FOR you, not against you.' He's already preparing the table, the seat with your name, and the people who will weep with gratitude that you survived long enough to find them.
