"I don't fully belong in my heritage culture or in the dominant culture—I'm too much of both and not enough of either."
How it sounds in your head: You're not 'ethnic enough' for your own community—too Americanized, too whitewashed, lost your language. But you're also not white enough for dominant spaces—you still get asked where you're from, still get othered. You're stuck in the middle, belonging nowhere, code-switching constantly, exhausted from never being able to just be.
"For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation."
-- Ephesians 2:14Enemy tactic to create identity confusion and isolation by making you believe belonging requires homogeneity.
You feel the rejection from both sides. Your relatives criticize you for losing touch with roots; white friends treat you as the token. You're a bridge person, which sounds poetic until you realize bridges get walked on from both directions.
Samaritans were ethnically mixed and religiously rejected by both Jews and Gentiles—too Jewish for Gentiles, too Gentile for Jews. Yet Jesus chose this marginalized, mixed-identity woman as the first person to whom He openly declared His Messiahship, and she became the evangelist to her whole city.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too mixed, too in-between, too much and not enough. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ has broken down the middle wall of separation and made from two one new man. My dual identity is not confusion—it's a PROPHETIC PICTURE of the kingdom where every wall is demolished. I am not stuck between—I am a bridge BY DESIGN. IT IS WRITTEN that I am complete in Him, lacking nothing. The Father didn't make a mistake when He placed me between cultures—He positioned me strategically. I belong fully in the kingdom, and my unique perspective is part of my assignment, not my deficiency.
The Father isn't asking you to pick a side or prove your authenticity to either culture. He's running toward you saying, 'You are Mine—fully, completely, without category. You don't have to fit into their boxes because I'm building you a seat at My table.'
