"I don't deserve an inheritance because I'm not the favorite son."
How it sounds in your head: My parents obviously love my sibling more. I'm not as smart or athletic or well-behaved. I mess up more. The blessing goes to the good kid, not me.
"And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together."
-- Romans 8:17Enemy: using perceived favoritism to make you doubt your position in Father's heart and covenant standing.
You notice your sibling gets praised more or disciplined less. You compare yourself and feel like the second-choice kid, translating that to how God sees you.
Jacob was NOT the favorite son but tricked his father for the blessing. When Isaac discovered the deception, he trembled but declared 'I have blessed him and he SHALL BE BLESSED' - the blessing couldn't be reversed even by trickery.
I REFUSE the lie that I must be the favorite to receive inheritance. IT IS WRITTEN: I am a joint heir with Christ - EQUAL inheritance! Jacob wasn't the favorite but got the blessing. The prodigal was the WORST son and got the party. The BARAK protected liars and deceivers because it's based on COVENANT not character. IT IS WRITTEN: There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. I'm not competing for favor - I'm already His beloved son, fully blessed, fully accepted, fully provided for because I'm IN HIM.
The Father ran to the prodigal who blew his inheritance on prostitutes, not the older brother who did everything right. His love isn't based on your performance compared to siblings - it's based on His nature as FATHER.
