"I divorced and ruined my children's security and stability forever."
How it sounds in your head: They grew up in a broken home because I left. Other children had intact families; mine had custody schedules and two Christmases. I see their relationship struggles, their trust issues, and I know it's because I couldn't make my marriage work.
"A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. God sets the solitary in families."
-- Psalm 68:5-6Religious condemnation that divorce creates unredeemable damage, combined with cultural messaging about 'broken homes.'
She can trace their struggles to the divorce timeline, and church culture told her for decades she destroyed her family.
Hagar was a single mother, divorced/banished, wandering in the wilderness with a dying child and no provision. God met her there, opened her eyes to a well, and promised to make Ishmael a great nation. Single motherhood didn't disqualify either of them from blessing or legacy.
I REFUSE the lie that divorce destroyed my children's security or disqualified them from wholeness. IT IS WRITTEN that God is a FATHER to the fatherless and sets the solitary in families—and He has been filling every gap since the day their family structure changed. My children are not 'from a broken home'—they are from a home where a mother had the courage to choose differently. The BARAK blessing doesn't require an intact marriage; it operates by COVENANT, and that covenant covers my seed regardless of my marital status. IT IS WRITTEN that God works ALL things together for good—not just the things that looked right. My children's wholeness is ALREADY COMPLETE in Christ, and their healing doesn't wait for me to undo history.
The Father sees a woman who made impossible choices in untenable circumstances, and He's been father and mother and protector to your children every moment since. He didn't condemn you then; He won't condemn you now. He's been their stability all along.
