"I deserved the way my parents treated me because I'm difficult"
How it sounds in your head: They say I'm too sensitive, too loud, too needy. Maybe if I wasn't so much trouble, they'd be happier. Other kids don't seem to make their parents this frustrated. I must be the problem.
"I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well."
-- Psalm 139:14Trauma/Religion - justifying abuse/neglect by accepting false guilt, believing mistreatment is deserved
His uniqueness (energy level, sensitivity, needs) has been labeled as 'too much' repeatedly. He's internalized that he's defective rather than just different.
Jephthah was rejected by his family, driven out, told he was worthless because of his mother's identity—'You're a prostitute's son, you get nothing.' Yet when crisis came, God INSTANTLY made him the LEADER and DELIVERER of the entire nation—those who rejected him came BEGGING him to lead.
I REFUSE the lie that I deserved mistreatment! IT IS WRITTEN that I am FEARFULLY and WONDERFULLY made—MARVELOUS are God's works! I am not 'too much' or 'too difficult'—I am EXACTLY as God designed me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am loved, celebrated, cherished. The BARAK blessing is mine—I am blessed, favored, the head and not the tail. My uniqueness is a GIFT, not a defect. I am God's masterpiece!
Your Father doesn't see you as 'too much'—He sees you as exactly right, His beloved son, perfectly designed. While you were being told you're the problem, He was running toward you with celebration, not critique.
