"I can't sleep anymore. My mind races all night and my body won't shut down."
How it sounds in your head: You lie there at 2 AM calculating everything—retirement numbers, health risks, what you should've done differently. Your wife sleeps while you're the only one still carrying it all. Even your body has turned against you now.
"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep."
-- Psalm 127:2Enemy: Stealing rest that's already yours in Christ, making you earn peace through mental effort.
His body genuinely won't cooperate like it did at 30, and the responsibilities are real—aging parents, financial pressure, physical changes. The racing thoughts feel like evidence he's failing at something fundamental.
Elijah was suicidal, running from Jezebel, sitting under a tree wanting to die. God's solution? Sleep and food, twice—no lecture, no rebuke, just rest. An angel touched him and said 'Arise and eat' and he slept again.
I REFUSE the lie that rest is gone from my life. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives His beloved sleep, and I am His beloved son. My mind doesn't need to solve every problem before I rest—my Father watches while I sleep. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 4:8 that I will both lie down in peace and sleep, for the Lord ALONE makes me dwell in safety. The BARAK blessing includes rest for my body and peace for my mind. I receive supernatural sleep as my covenant inheritance. My worth isn't measured by wakeful hours carrying burdens—my Father carries them while I rest.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to calm your mind before He gives rest—He's touching you like He touched Elijah and saying 'Sleep, beloved son.' He hasn't abandoned you to white-knuckle your way through insomnia; He's commanding His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways, including the way to deep sleep.
