"I ate too much; now I need to punish myself with extra workouts"
How it sounds in your head: I messed up and ate way too much. I have to earn back the right to eat normally by burning it all off. Every extra bite requires penance.
"Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more. Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin."
-- Hebrews 10:17-18Religious works mindset applied to body - earning, atonement, punishment for failure.
The fitness world operates on calories-in-calories-out like a moral ledger. It feels mathematically and morally right that you must atone for overeating.
The woman was caught in ACTUAL SIN (adultery) and brought to Jesus for judgment and stoning. Jesus said 'Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more' - INSTANT grace with zero punishment, zero penance, zero proving period. She walked away free IMMEDIATELY.
I REFUSE the lie that I must punish my body to atone for eating. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus made the final offering for sin and there is no longer any sacrifice required - my Father remembers my failures no more. Food is not sin requiring penance. Exercise is not punishment. There is NOW no condemnation to those in Christ. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ - not by my workout performance but by His blood. I reject the religious treadmill of earning and atoning. I am free to move in joy, not guilt.
Your Father isn't standing over you with a stopwatch demanding you burn off yesterday's calories. He's inviting you to rest in the finished work of the cross that already paid for everything.
