"I already gained weight—I'll never have the body I could have had if I'd been more careful."
How it sounds in your head: Your body is changing and you're getting curves and softness you didn't have before. Other girls are still thin and you're not. You ate too much at that birthday party. You didn't exercise enough. Now your body is ruined before you even got to be a teenager, and you'll spend the rest of your life trying to get back to what you lost.
"For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."
-- 1 Samuel 16:7World—diet culture and the lie that bodies have one perfect moment and any deviation means permanent damage.
Pre-pubescent bodies change dramatically and unpredictably, and girls this age are bombarded with messages that thin = good. When their body softens or curves appear, it feels like failure, especially when some girls stay thin through puberty and they don't.
Leah was called 'weak-eyed' (unattractive) compared to beautiful Rachel, and she knew Jacob didn't choose her. But God saw her rejection and OPENED her womb—she became the mother of Judah (Messianic line) and had six sons. God blessed the 'unattractive' one with the greater blessing because He doesn't measure worth by beauty standards.
I REFUSE the lie that my changing body is ruined or wrong. IT IS WRITTEN that God doesn't see as man sees—He looks at the HEART, not the scale or the mirror. My body is developing exactly as He designed. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 139:14 that I am fearfully and wonderfully made, and that includes my body RIGHT NOW at this size, at this stage. I am not damaged goods. I am a daughter of the King, covered by the BARAK blessing, and my worth is NOT in my weight.
The Father isn't disappointed in your developing body—He's PROUD of the young woman you're becoming. While you're panicking about curves and softness, He's looking at you with absolute delight, not waiting for you to shrink or change, but loving you EXACTLY as you are right this second.
