"Healing was just to prove Jesus was Messiah. We don't need signs now that we have the Bible."
How it sounds in your head: The miracles authenticated Scripture. Now that we have the completed canon, signs and wonders aren't necessary. Asking for healing shows weak faith—we should just trust the Word we have.
"And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs."
-- Mark 16:20Reformed cessationism that elevates the written Word above the Living Word, making Jesus' power past-tense historical fact instead of present reality.
His seminary-trained pastor taught that miracles were 'sign gifts' for a specific dispensation. This theological framework makes his lack of healing experience feel doctrinally correct rather than spiritually deficient.
She had hemorrhaged for twelve years, spent all her money on doctors who made her worse, was ceremonially unclean and untouchable. She touched Jesus' garment and IMMEDIATELY the flow of blood dried up—instant healing after twelve years of medical failure.
I REFUSE the lie that healing was only to authenticate Scripture. IT IS WRITTEN: the Lord confirms the word through ACCOMPANYING signs—present tense, ongoing reality. The Bible isn't a REPLACEMENT for Jesus' power; it's the REVELATION of it. I am a son under the BARAK blessing—the covenant that healed Israel even when they sinned, even when they doubted. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His healing nature didn't expire when Revelation was written. The Word I read describes the SAME Jesus who touches my body NOW.
The Father isn't saying 'you have the Bible now so stop asking for tangible help'—He's the Father who RAN toward the prodigal with BOTH the robe (covering, identity) AND the ring (authority, inheritance) AND the feast (provision, celebration). He gives WORD and POWER together.
