"Healing was for the early church but doesn't happen the same way today"
How it sounds in your head: Those were the apostles—they had special power. Miracles authenticated the gospel when the church was starting, but now we have the Bible so we don't need signs and wonders. Expecting healing today is just charismatic emotionalism. I should be mature and accept medical reality.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
-- Hebrews 13:8Cessationist theology making Jesus' power historical instead of present, limiting God to past tense
Some denominations teach that miraculous gifts ended with the apostles. When you don't SEE frequent miracles in your church, theology that explains their absence feels more realistic than expecting what you've never witnessed.
Aeneas was paralyzed EIGHT YEARS. Peter didn't pray a long prayer or have a healing service. He said 'Jesus the Christ HEALS you. Arise.' Aeneas arose IMMEDIATELY—not 'Jesus healed,' but 'Jesus HEALS,' present tense, available NOW. This was AFTER Jesus ascended, proving healing continued through believers.
I REFUSE the lie that healing ended with the apostles. IT IS WRITTEN: Jesus Christ is the SAME yesterday, today, and FOREVER—He's not retired. Jesus said believers would do the works HE did and even GREATER—that's a present-tense promise for TODAY. The Great Commission includes 'they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover'—that 'they' includes ME. IT IS WRITTEN: by His stripes I WAS healed—past tense at Calvary means it's ALREADY PURCHASED and available NOW. I am a branch attached to the Vine; the same sap that flowed in the early church flows in me TODAY. The BARAK blessing didn't expire in Genesis—I'm Abraham's seed through Christ, heir of the SAME promise.
Your Father didn't retire His healing power after the book of Acts—Jesus is the SAME, doing the SAME works, through the SAME Spirit living in you. The prodigal's father wasn't generous in chapter 1 but stingy in chapter 15. He's ALWAYS running, ALWAYS restoring, ALWAYS throwing parties.
