"God's withholding marriage because I'm not healed enough yet."
How it sounds in your head: You've done the therapy, read the books, gone to the inner healing sessions. But there's always another layer, another wound, another thing to fix. Maybe once you're fully healed, fully whole, then you'll be ready. Then God will bring someone. But what if you're never healed enough? What if you're too broken for love?
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Religious works doctrine—salvation through self-improvement, suggesting God withholds based on spiritual performance.
The church says 'God's preparing you' and 'work on yourself first.' You've heard 'whole people attract whole people' and 'you can't love someone until you love yourself.' Every Christian dating book says get healthy first, then God will bring your person. So you're trying to heal fast enough to earn love.
She'd been married five times and was living with a man she wasn't married to—clearly not 'healed' or 'whole' by Christian self-help standards. Jesus didn't say 'go get therapy first.' He revealed Himself to her IMMEDIATELY, and she became the first evangelist to an entire town. Her brokenness didn't delay His purpose.
I REFUSE the lie that God is withholding relationship until I'm healed enough, whole enough, or fixed enough. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL a sinner—broken, messy, unfixed—Christ died for me. He didn't wait for me to get better. He loved me at my worst. I don't earn love through healing; I receive healing THROUGH love. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that I am a NEW creation in Christ—the old has passed, the new has come—not because I completed a healing journey but because of HIS finished work. I am not too broken for love. I am already loved, already whole in Him, and my healing happens in relationship, not before it.
The Father isn't standing at the finish line of your healing journey waiting to reward you with marriage—He's walking beside you now, and He doesn't see you as broken goods. He sees you as His beloved daughter, ready NOW for everything He's prepared, mess and all.
