"God will move when I've proven I'm serious about this request."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe God is waiting to see if you REALLY want this or if you're just casually praying. Like He's watching to see if you'll pray long enough, stay faithful enough, or demonstrate enough desperation before He decides you've earned the right to receive. Perhaps the length of your waiting is actually a TEST of your character.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Source: Religion twisting biblical persistence into works-based earning; Old Covenant mindset that breakthrough must be earned through performance leaking into New Covenant grace.
You've heard stories about people who 'pressed in' or 'contended for' their breakthrough, making it sound like the ones who get results are the ones who try hardest. Plus, it feels safer to think God is making you prove yourself than to think He might just say no or not care.
A Roman Centurion approached Jesus about his paralyzed servant, spoke ONE SENTENCE of faith ('just say the word'), and Jesus marveled at his faith and said 'Go your way; as you have believed, so let it be done.' The Bible says the servant was healed 'that same HOUR'—instant breakthrough from one moment of faith.
I REFUSE the lie that I must prove myself serious before God moves. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL a sinner, Christ died for me—He moved FIRST, not after I earned it. The Centurion's servant was healed from ONE sentence of faith, the Prodigal got the party while he still smelled like pigs. My Father doesn't wait for me to prove anything; He already PROVED everything at the cross. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed in all I set my hand to—that's the BARAK blessing that protected LIARS and DECEIVERS, not perfect performers. I don't earn breakthrough through long prayers; I RECEIVE breakthrough through POSITION in Christ. It's mine NOW.
Your Father isn't sitting in heaven with a stopwatch timing how long you'll pray before He decides you're serious enough—He's been serious about YOU since before you were born. He proved His commitment at the cross; your breakthrough isn't about your proving anything to Him, it's about you RECEIVING what He's already proven He wants you to have.
