"God wants me to suffer without pain medication to prove my endurance."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this chronic pain is my thorn in the flesh like Paul had. Taking painkillers might rob me of the spiritual growth God wants through suffering. Real saints endured without complaints or medication.
"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers."
-- 3 John 1:2Religious teaching glorified suffering as godliness, making relief shameful instead of receiving God's provision.
Years of sermons about 'suffering produces character' make her feel selfish for wanting relief. At her age, pain is constant, and she wonders if refusing medication would make her more spiritual or closer to God.
Paul told Timothy to use wine for his stomach ailments and frequent infirmities. Paul didn't say 'suffer through it for character'—he prescribed a natural remedy, showing God approves of treating physical problems with practical solutions.
I REFUSE the lie that God glorifies my suffering. IT IS WRITTEN that God desires my health just as my soul prospers. Jesus paid for my healing at the cross—it's already mine. Taking pain medication doesn't make me weak; it makes me wise to receive God's provision through medical knowledge. IT IS WRITTEN in 3 John 1:2 that health is God's will for me. I reject religious glorification of pain. The BARAK blessing includes health, strength, and relief from affliction.
Your Father isn't withholding approval until you suffer enough. He's already running toward you with relief in His hands—through medicine, through touch, through supernatural intervention—because the cross FINISHED the suffering required forever.
