"God wants me to suffer through this depression without medication to build my character and dependence on Him."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this darkness is God's tool to make me stronger. If I take meds, I'll miss what He's trying to teach me through this pain. Suffering must be His will.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Source: religion - twisted theology that makes God the author of mental illness and suffering, perverting His nature into a cosmic torturer.
You've heard sermons about Job and Paul's thorn, and you assume your depression must be God's purposeful curriculum. The darkness feels so heavy that it must mean something spiritually significant.
A woman was bent over for eighteen years, unable to stand straight - Jesus said SATAN had bound her. He didn't say 'God is teaching you through this' - He IMMEDIATELY healed her on the Sabbath, showing God's nature is to FREE, not bind.
I REFUSE the lie that God authors my depression to teach me. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life, and that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy. My depression is from the thief, not my Father. God is LIGHT with NO darkness in Him - He doesn't create mental torment to build character. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from the curse, and mental anguish is part of that curse. I receive freedom, medication, therapy, and supernatural breakthrough - whatever brings LIFE. My Father runs toward me with healing, not lessons through suffering.
Your Father is not orchestrating your depression - He's GRIEVING it with you! He's running toward you with the medication, the therapy, the breakthrough, the friend who understands, anything that brings you back to LIFE, because watching you suffer breaks His heart.
