"God provides, but only the bare minimum - just enough to survive, never thrive."
How it sounds in your head: Sure, God keeps us from starving, but that's it. We're always just scraping by. Abundance is for other people, not us. God's provision is survival mode, not breakthrough.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Source: Religious poverty theology that makes lack holy and abundance suspicious, contrary to the blessing of Abraham.
His experience is 'just enough' month after month. Abundance feels too good to be true or somehow unspiritual.
He planted crops during FAMINE and reaped a HUNDREDFOLD the same year - not just survival but massive abundance. He became so wealthy with flocks, herds, and servants that the Philistines envied him and the king asked him to leave because he was 'much mightier than we.'
I REFUSE the lie that God only provides survival. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give ABUNDANT life - not barely-enough, but OVERFLOW. Isaac reaped a hundredfold during famine. The 5,000 were fed with twelve baskets left over. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28 that the Lord commands the blessing on my storehouses - that's ABUNDANCE. The blessing of Abraham is on me, and Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had GREAT wealth, not poverty. I am blessed above only and not beneath, the head and not the tail. God does EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. I receive ABUNDANT provision because I'm in covenant with an ABUNDANT God.
Father isn't rationing provision like a miser. He's running toward you with the fattened calf - not the skinny one, not leftovers, but the BEST - because He delights in lavishing abundance on His children, and His nature is OVERFLOW, not just-enough.
