"God only answers 'big' prayers for important things—my small needs don't matter to Him."
How it sounds in your head: Sure, He'll answer prayers about salvation and healing, but my anxiety? My friendship drama? My insecurity about my body? That's too small, too shallow. He's got bigger things to deal with than my little problems.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."
-- Matthew 10:29-31Religious hierarchy of prayer—'big' theological issues matter to God while daily emotional needs are trivial, as if God has a priority inbox and you're spam.
Church emphasizes 'big' testimonies—salvation, cancer healed, marriages restored. Her daily struggles with body image, anxiety, friend group drama feel embarrassingly small by comparison. Surely God rolls His eyes at her 'shallow' concerns.
Jesus' first public miracle wasn't raising the dead or healing disease—it was saving a wedding from running out of wine, preventing social embarrassment. He turned 180 gallons of water into the finest wine instantly to protect their reputation. A 'small' social problem mattered enough for His first miracle.
I REFUSE the lie that my daily struggles are too small for God. IT IS WRITTEN that He numbers the HAIRS on my head—if He tracks that detail, He cares about my anxiety, my friendships, my body image. Jesus' first miracle was saving a wedding party from embarrassment—He made 180 gallons of wine for social comfort. IT IS WRITTEN that He cares about sparrows; how much MORE about me? I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK covenant—the blessing covered EVERYTHING in the city and field, coming in and going out. Nothing in my life is outside His care. He's obsessed with every detail that matters to me.
The Father doesn't have a priority inbox where your 'small' needs get ignored—He's counting your HAIRS. Like the prodigal's father who cared about the robe, the ring, the sandals, every detail of restoration, your Father is obsessed with every tiny thing that affects you.
