"God needs me to keep going—who will do this if I stop?"
How it sounds in your head: The kids' ministry is already short on volunteers. If you step back, who will teach the girls' small group? You're the one who plays guitar for youth worship. God called you to this. If you quit, you're leaving God in a bind and letting down everyone who depends on you.
"For every beast of the forest is Mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds of the mountains, and the wild beasts of the field are Mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you; for the world is Mine, and all its fullness."
-- Psalm 50:10-12Messiah complex—believing God's work depends on your performance.
You're good at what you do and people tell you they need you. The church is always begging for volunteers. Stepping back feels like abandoning God's mission. You've been taught that if you have a gift, you're obligated to use it constantly.
Moses tried to judge all of Israel alone from morning to evening, believing he had to do it all. His father-in-law Jethro said 'This is not good—you will surely wear yourself out.' God AGREED and immediately raised up other leaders. Moses' burnout wasn't God's plan—delegation was.
I REFUSE the lie that God's work depends on my exhaustion. IT IS WRITTEN that God owns the cattle on a thousand hills—He doesn't NEED me; He INVITES me. I am not the Messiah. Jesus already filled that role. IT IS WRITTEN that He is not served by human hands as though He NEEDED anything. My worth is not my usefulness. I am a DAUGHTER, not a slave. Under the BARAK blessing, I am blessed COMING IN and GOING OUT—that includes stepping back to rest. God will raise up others or move Himself. I trust Him more than I trust my indispensability.
Your Father isn't panicking about who will fill your role if you rest. He's the God who raised up leaders for Moses in ONE conversation, who called Gideon out of hiding in ONE moment. He's not wringing His hands—He's waiting for you to release the burden you were never meant to carry alone.
