"God is testing me with lack to see if I'll stay faithful before He blesses me."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe God is seeing if I'll trust Him when I don't have much. Like He's waiting to see if I pass the test. If I complain, I fail and have to start over. I need to prove I'm content with little.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning."
-- James 1:17Source: Religious teaching presenting God as withholding Father who uses poverty as character examination.
He's heard sermons about Joseph's pit and prison, Job's testing, and wilderness seasons. The teaching makes it seem like lack is God's classroom and provision is graduation.
Crippled, hiding in poverty in Lo Debar (place of no pasture), done nothing to deserve blessing. King David restored him INSTANTLY to the king's table permanently - not because he proved anything, but because of COVENANT with his father Jonathan.
I REFUSE the lie that God is testing me with lack. IT IS WRITTEN that every good gift comes from my Father, with no shadow of turning. He doesn't withhold provision to examine my contentment - He GIVES richly all things to enjoy. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed because of COVENANT, not because I passed some poverty test. Like Mephibosheth who ate at the king's table for life because of covenant, I receive abundance because of Jesus' covenant. The BARAK blessing flows from God's nature, not my test scores. My Father is a GIVER.
Your Father isn't putting you through lack to see if you'll stay loyal. He's already decided you're worthy because of Jesus, and He's releasing provision NOW because that's who He is - a good Father who gives good gifts.
