"God is silent because He's disappointed in me and needs me to prove myself first."
How it sounds in your head: I know I let God down. Maybe He's giving me the silent treatment until I get my act together. I need to show Him I'm serious this time before He'll answer. He's waiting for me to earn back His attention.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Religion projects human disappointment and conditional love onto God, making His silence feel like relational punishment rather than divine timing.
When you've failed or fallen short, silence feels like the emotional withdrawal you've experienced in human relationships—the cold shoulder until you prove you're sorry. If earthly fathers withhold until you perform, surely God does too.
Peter denied Jesus three times, cursed and swore he didn't know Him, then went back to fishing in shame. Jesus didn't make Peter grovel or prove himself. He cooked him breakfast on the beach, restored him with three questions that mirrored the three denials, and gave him the keys to the church. From denier to foundation in ONE CONVERSATION. No probation period. No earning it back.
I REFUSE the lie that God's disappointed and waiting for me to prove myself. IT IS WRITTEN: While I was STILL a sinner, Christ died for me, and NOTHING can separate me from His love. God doesn't give the silent treatment—He RUNS toward me like the prodigal's father who threw a party for failure. IT IS WRITTEN: 'There is NOW no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.' I don't have to earn back His attention because I never lost it. The BARAK blessing doesn't pause when I stumble—it's based on COVENANT, not my track record. I am loved, I am pursued, I am His.
Your Father isn't waiting for you to prove you're serious—He's been serious about you since before the foundation of the world, and nothing you do changes that. Like Peter who went from denier to apostle over breakfast, your Father restores you in a MOMENT, not after a probation period, because His love isn't conditional on your performance.
