"God is punishing my sleep because of unconfessed sins from my past."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this insomnia is payback. I remember things I did decades ago - lies I told, people I hurt, choices I'm ashamed of. Maybe God is keeping me awake until I remember and confess everything. Maybe I haven't repented enough.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religious teaching that God withholds based on performance, turning Father into accounting auditor waiting for complete sin inventory.
The guilty memories ARE real. There ARE things done that can't be undone. Religious voices have said 'God won't bless you until you get right with Him' - and sleep IS being withheld, so the equation seems to fit.
Manasseh sacrificed his own children to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, did more evil than the pagan nations - then cried out to God from prison. God heard him IMMEDIATELY, restored him to his kingdom, and gave him peace. Instant forgiveness for the worst imaginable sins.
I REFUSE the lie that God is punishing my sleep for past sins. IT IS WRITTEN that He has forgiven ALL trespasses and nailed them to the cross. There is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus - that's Romans 8:1, not religious opinion. The blood of Jesus cleanses from ALL sin - not just remembered ones. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 10:17 - 'Their sins and lawless deeds I will remember no more.' If HE doesn't remember them, they have no power. The BARAK blessing covered liars, deceivers, and murderers - it covers me. I receive rest as GIFT, not as reward for perfect confession. I am forgiven. I am free. I sleep in peace NOW.
The Father isn't waiting for you to dredge up every past failure - He's already thrown them into the sea of forgetfulness. Like the prodigal's father never mentioned the prostitutes or the wasted money, your Father mentions none of it. He's running toward you with the robe of righteousness, not a ledger of sins.
