"God healed in Scripture to prove Jesus was Messiah; that purpose is fulfilled, so healing ended."
How it sounds in your head: You've been taught that miracles were PROOF for unbelieving Jews that Jesus was who He claimed to be. Once that was established and recorded, the signs served their purpose. Every healing in the Gospels gets framed as 'evidence for that generation,' not a pattern for today.
"How shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?"
-- Hebrews 2:3-4Source: Theological system that made Jesus' compassion transactional instead of revealing His eternal nature toward suffering.
This explanation has academic weight and seems to honor Scripture's purpose. It feels respectful to say miracles had a specific historical function rather than expecting them to continue indefinitely.
Eutychus fell asleep during Paul's long sermon, fell three stories out a window, and was TAKEN UP DEAD—not unconscious, DEAD. Paul went down, embraced him, and his LIFE RETURNED; he was brought back alive and everyone was greatly comforted.
I REFUSE the lie that healing was only to authenticate Jesus and ended after His ascension. IT IS WRITTEN: God bears witness with signs and wonders and gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will—present tense, ONGOING confirmation of the gospel. Eutychus died AFTER Jesus ascended, and Paul raised him—proving resurrection power didn't stop when Jesus left. IT IS WRITTEN: These signs will follow those who believe—not 'followed those who believed then,' but FOLLOW those who believe NOW. The BARAK blessing included miraculous protection and provision throughout generations; healing is part of my covenant inheritance that doesn't expire. I receive signs, wonders, and miracles as God's present-tense witness to His salvation.
Your Father didn't heal people to check a theological box—He healed them because it's HIS NATURE to restore what's broken. His compassion didn't fulfill a purpose and retire; it's the same compassion reaching toward your body RIGHT NOW, eager to demonstrate that He's still the God who makes all things new.
