"God gave me this sickness to teach me something important."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe you were too prideful, too busy, not grateful enough. God had to slow you down somehow. This disease is His tool to refine your character and draw you closer to Him. Accept it as His will.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."
-- Acts 10:38Source: religious teaching that portrays God as the author of evil who uses disease as a teaching method, directly contradicting Jesus revealing the Father's heart.
He's heard this in sermons his whole life, and it gives meaning to suffering. It feels humble to accept it as God's will rather than fight it, and he's seen people 'grow through trials.'
Disciples asked if the man's blindness was caused by his sin or his parents' sin—Jesus said NEITHER, but that God's works would be revealed in him. Then He immediately HEALED him—God's work is healing, not sustaining sickness for lessons.
I REFUSE the lie that my Father uses disease as a teaching tool. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus went about healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil, revealing God's true will. Sickness is not my teacher—the Holy Spirit is. God is not in partnership with cancer, diabetes, or any affliction; He's in the business of destroying the works of the devil. IT IS WRITTEN in 3 John 2 that He wishes above all things that I prosper and be in health even as my soul prospers. The BARAK blessing doesn't include disease as discipline—it promises health, vitality, and the Lord commanding blessing on everything concerning me. I am learning from the Spirit of Truth, not from lying symptoms.
The Father isn't holding a sickness-shaped lesson plan over your head—He's holding out nail-scarred hands that already paid for your healing 2,000 years ago. He's not waiting for you to learn something before releasing you; He's already released you at the cross and is whispering, 'By My stripes you were healed, past tense, it's finished.'
