"God allowed your illness to slow you down and teach you dependence. Healing would undo His lesson."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this stroke was God's way of forcing me to retire and trust Him. I was too independent, too self-reliant. If He heals me, I'll just go back to my old ways. Perhaps this weakness is His gift.
"The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."
-- John 10:10Religious teaching that God authors sickness as sanctification tool, making healing seem like resistance to His discipline.
The illness did force lifestyle changes that seem spiritually beneficial—slower pace, more prayer time, humility. Interpreting it as divine instruction makes suffering purposeful rather than meaningless.
Disciples asked if the man's blindness was caused by his sin or his parents' sin. Jesus said 'Neither... but that the works of God should be revealed in him'—then He HEALED him. God's glory is revealed through HEALING, not through maintaining sickness as a teaching tool.
I REFUSE the lie that God authors sickness to teach me dependence. IT IS WRITTEN: 'The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly.' Jesus heals—He doesn't afflict. IT IS WRITTEN: 'God anointed Jesus... healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil.' My illness is oppression, not instruction. The Holy Spirit teaches; disease destroys. I receive divine health AND divine dependence. The BARAK blessing doesn't include affliction as sanctification. I declare healing, strength, and Spirit-led intimacy without requiring physical breakdown.
The Father isn't making you sick to get your attention—He's offering abundant life and inviting you to dependence through love, not affliction. Like the prodigal's father who didn't orchestrate the famine but celebrated the return, God doesn't cause your suffering but welcomes you into relationship healed and whole.
