"Giving should feel sacrificial and hard, or it doesn't count as true generosity."
How it sounds in your head: If it doesn't hurt to give, then I'm probably not giving enough. Real faith is supposed to feel scary, like stepping off a cliff financially. Comfortable giving must be selfish giving.
"And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:8Source: religion making suffering the measure of spirituality, turning generosity into a painful obligation instead of joyful overflow.
Many Bible stories involve sacrifice—Isaac on the altar, the widow's last meal. It seems like true obedience always costs everything and feels terrifying.
After Job's suffering, God restored DOUBLE everything he lost—14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, abundant wealth. Job gave offerings from ABUNDANCE afterwards, not from painful lack. God's goal was overflow, not perpetual sacrifice.
I REFUSE the lie that giving must be painful to be valid. IT IS WRITTEN that God makes all grace abound so I ALWAYS have sufficiency in ALL things with ABUNDANCE for every good work. I don't give from grinding sacrifice—I give from cheerful overflow. IT IS WRITTEN that it's more BLESSED to give, which means happy and fulfilled, not suffering. I am Abraham's seed under the BARAK covenant, and God commands blessing on my storehouses so I have MORE than enough. The Macedonians gave joyfully even in poverty because they understood the privilege. My generous heart flows from abiding in the Vine where fruit comes naturally, not from striving or pain. God is glorified by my TRUST, not my suffering.
The Father isn't asking you to give until it hurts—He's RUNNING toward you with such abundance that giving becomes effortless overflow. Like the prodigal's father who gave from JOY, not demand, your Father wants your generosity to reflect His cheerful, abundant nature.
