"Faith is a crutch I've outgrown; I need evidence now, not belief"
How it sounds in your head: Believe without seeing—that works when you're young and naive. But I've lived too long to rely on feelings and hope. I need data. Evidence. Proof. Faith feels like intellectual surrender. Maybe I've matured past needing that emotional security blanket.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."
-- Hebrews 11:1Source: Enlightenment rationalism equating faith with anti-intellectualism and evidence with maturity instead of recognizing faith as response to sufficient evidence.
Western education valorizes empiricism and skepticism. Faith-language sounds like wishful thinking. He wants something he can measure, test, prove—especially facing death.
Demanded physical evidence—'Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails... I will not believe.' Jesus didn't rebuke his need for evidence; He SHOWED UP and said 'Reach your finger here, and look at My hands.' Then blessed those who believe without seeing—but He gave Thomas what he needed.
I REFUSE the lie that faith is intellectual surrender. IT IS WRITTEN that faith is the EVIDENCE of things not seen—it's not belief against evidence but confidence in testimony deemed trustworthy. IT IS WRITTEN that Thomas demanded proof and Jesus gave it without condemnation—my need for evidence doesn't offend God. Five hundred people saw the resurrected Christ; martyrs died for eyewitness accounts, not religious feelings. The BARAK wasn't based on blind belief—Abraham tested God, asked for signs, negotiated. I am his seed; my faith is not a crutch but a reasoned trust in the God who rose from the dead and left an empty tomb that no one has ever refuted.
The Father isn't offended by your demand for evidence—He's the one who provided an empty tomb, 500 witnesses, and a historical record you can investigate. While you fear faith is intellectual weakness, He's offering you evidence strong enough to die for.
