"Expecting abundance is presumptuous; I should just be grateful for whatever little I get."
How it sounds in your head: Who am I to expect God to actually come through big? Feels arrogant to believe for real breakthrough. Safer to lower expectations and just be thankful for scraps so I'm not disappointed.
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."
-- Ephesians 3:20Source: Religion teaching God's stinginess instead of His extravagant generosity.
He's been disappointed before and taught that expecting too much is dangerous. Gratitude sermons made him think expecting MORE is ungrateful for LITTLE, creating low-expectation faith.
Widow had insurmountable debt, creditors taking her sons. Elisha said gather VESSELS, 'do not gather just a few.' Oil multiplied until EVERY VESSEL was full—her faith capacity determined her supply. She got exactly as much ABUNDANCE as she EXPECTED.
I REFUSE the lie that expecting abundance is presumptuous. IT IS WRITTEN that my God does EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all I ask or think. I am grafted into the BARAK blessing that makes me lend to nations, not borrow. Small expectations insult His nature—He's the God of MORE THAN ENOUGH. IT IS WRITTEN that with God nothing is impossible. I expect BIG because the Father RUNS toward me with the FATTENED CALF, not leftovers.
The Father isn't offering you scraps while hoping you're grateful—He's RUNNING toward you with the BEST the house has, the FATTENED calf, the FINEST robe. He's not stingy. He's EXTRAVAGANT. And He's offended when you expect less.
