"Everyone else's life is better because they're better people—I must deserve this struggle."
How it sounds in your head: Good things happen to good people, right? So if my life is hard and hers is easy, maybe I'm just not as good. Maybe I did something wrong, or I'm being punished, or I'm just not the kind of person God blesses. Maybe I deserve this.
"And His disciples asked Him, saying, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' Jesus answered, 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.'"
-- John 9:2-3Religion + karma mindset—teaching that circumstances reflect character, that blessing equals goodness and struggle equals failure or sin.
You've been taught that good people get blessed and bad people suffer. Her easy life looks like reward; your hard life feels like punishment. Religion reinforced that God's favor is earned by being good enough, so struggle must mean you're NOT good enough.
Job was called BLAMELESS and UPRIGHT by GOD HIMSELF, yet he lost everything—children, wealth, health. His suffering wasn't punishment for sin; even God testified he was RIGHTEOUS. Circumstances don't reveal character; they reveal spiritual battles beyond what we see.
I REFUSE the lie that my struggles prove I'm a bad person or that I deserve this pain. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus said suffering is NOT always punishment—sometimes it's the setup for God's glory to be revealed. I don't get what I deserve; I get what JESUS EARNED for me. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ Jesus—NONE. Hard circumstances don't make me bad; they make me HUMAN in a broken world. The BARAK blessing isn't based on my behavior—it's based on COVENANT. Abraham lied and was still blessed. Jacob deceived and was still blessed. I am blessed not because I'm perfect but because I'm IN CHRIST.
Father sees you drowning in guilt, believing you earned this pain, and He's running toward you shouting, 'You don't get what you deserve—you get what JESUS deserved! No condemnation, only LOVE!'
