"Everyone else's kids are thriving. Yours are struggling and it's your fault."
How it sounds in your head: Their kids are excelling in school, yours are barely passing. Their kids are respectful, yours talk back. Their kids are in AP classes and sports, yours are seeing therapists. You compare Christmas cards and feel like a failure. Maybe if you'd been more present, more patient, more something.
"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward."
-- Psalm 127:3Enemy accusation weaponizing parental responsibility to make you believe outcomes equal your worth as a father.
Your kids ARE struggling in measurable ways while others seem fine, and you CAN point to specific moments you failed them. Parenting outcomes feel like report cards on your fatherhood.
Isaac blatantly played favorites, loving Esau over Jacob and creating massive family dysfunction that led to deception, betrayal, and a family split. Yet God's covenant continued through both sons, outcomes secured by GRACE not parenting performance.
I REFUSE the lie that my kids' struggles are evidence I failed as a father. IT IS WRITTEN that children are a heritage from the LORD - their journey is THEIRS, not a scorecard on me. Isaac played favorites and the covenant continued. Jacob's sons murdered a city and God still protected them. God chose Jacob in the womb before parenting could factor in. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for me in Christ - not when my kids are thriving, RIGHT NOW. I am a good father not because of outcomes but because I'm connected to a GOOD Father. I release my kids to HIS care, covered by grace, loved completely.
The Father isn't grading your fatherhood based on your kids' performance - He's the God who loved the prodigal through the pig pen and welcomed him home reeking of failure. Your kids aren't projects to perfect; they're His heritage to love, and His grace covers their journey just like it covers yours.
