"Enjoying wealth is worldly; spiritual people focus only on eternal treasures."
How it sounds in your head: Real disciples store up treasures in heaven, not earth. Enjoying nice things feels carnal. You should be focused on souls and eternity, not cars and vacations. If you were truly spiritual, material things wouldn't matter. Your desire for earthly abundance proves your heart is in the wrong place.
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy."
-- 1 Timothy 6:17Religious false dichotomy that pits earthly provision against heavenly focus, denying God as giver of both.
You've heard 'store up treasures in heaven' used to shame earthly provision. Spiritual leaders you respect seem to eschew material things, making your desires feel shallow.
David died 'in a good old age, full of days and riches and honor.' A man after God's own heart enjoyed massive wealth without spiritual compromise—he worshiped AND prospered simultaneously.
I REFUSE the lie that enjoying wealth is worldly. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives me richly ALL things to ENJOY. He made material provision and called it GOOD. IT IS WRITTEN that the BARAK blessing makes me the head and not the tail, above and not beneath. David was a man after God's heart who died full of days, riches, and honor—no contradiction. I can store treasures in heaven AND enjoy earthly provision because both come from my Father's hand. He runs toward me with FULL blessing—spiritual and material—because He's generous.
The Father who threw a party with the fattened calf for a returning son isn't anti-celebration or anti-abundance. He gives richly all things to enjoy because watching His kids thrive brings Him pleasure.
