"Dementia or memory loss means I'm losing God and can't hold onto faith."

How it sounds in your head: I forget names, stories, even prayers I've prayed for decades. What if I forget God? What if my mind goes and takes my faith with it? I'll be lost inside myself, unreachable even by Him.

2 Timothy 2:13

"If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."

-- 2 Timothy 2:13
Enemy whispers: Losing your mind means losing God. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: 2 Timothy 2:13 - 'If we are faithless, He remains FAITHFUL; He cannot deny Himself.' Your faith doesn't hold HIM—He holds YOU. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Neither height nor depth...nor any other created thing shall separate us from the love of God' (Romans 8:39). Dementia is a 'created thing'—it CANNOT separate you. Even if you forget His name, He remembers yours. 'I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands' (Isaiah 49:16).
Quick Truth: LIE: Memory loss = losing God. TRUTH: 'If we're faithless, He remains faithful' (2Tim 2:13). Nothing separates us (Rom 8:39).

Fear that identity depends on mental capacity, when God holds His children independent of their memory.

Why this feels true:

Every forgotten word or lost thought feels like losing herself, and she equates spiritual connection with mental sharpness. Watching others decline into dementia terrifies her that faith requires cognitive function she's losing.

2 Samuel 9:1-13
Mephibosheth

Mephibosheth was crippled, powerless, hiding, unable to come to David. David SOUGHT him, brought him to the table, and said 'Don't be afraid...I will restore all.' He ate at the king's table continually—not because he could perform, but because of COVENANT. David came to HIM.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that memory loss means losing God. IT IS WRITTEN that if I am faithless, He remains FAITHFUL because He cannot deny Himself. His grip on me doesn't depend on my mental capacity. IT IS WRITTEN that NOTHING—including created things like dementia—can separate me from His love. Even if I forget Scripture, He remembers me: 'I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.' Mephibosheth couldn't come to David, so David came to HIM. I am under the BARAK covenant—blessed not by my performance but by HIS promise. God doesn't require me to remember Him perfectly; He holds me eternally. My identity is IN CHRIST, not in my cognition.

But God actually:

The Father doesn't love you because you remember Bible verses—He loves you because you're His daughter. Even if every memory fades, you're still engraved on His hands, and He'll carry you across the finish line Himself.
