"Debt is a sin and you're cursed until you pay it all off."
How it sounds in your head: You hear 'the borrower is slave to the lender' and feel condemned every time you swipe a card or see a student loan balance. You believe God is disappointed in you and won't bless you until you're debt-free, which feels impossible.
"having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:14Religion weaponizing Proverbs 22:7 into condemnation instead of wisdom, making debt a SIN instead of a situation Jesus already handled.
Debt DOES feel like bondage, and the verse is real, so the connection seems obvious. Plus financial teachers (Christian and secular) all hammer 'get out of debt' as if that's the key to God's approval.
She was in so much debt that creditors were about to take her sons as slaves. Elisha didn't rebuke her or give her a budget worksheet. He gave her a MIRACLE. One afternoon, ALL debt PAID, and she had surplus to live on. Instant cancellation.
I REFUSE the lie that debt disqualifies me from God's blessing or that I'm under a curse until it's paid. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus nailed ALL requirements against me to the cross (Colossians 2:14). IT IS WRITTEN that a widow's lifetime debt was ERASED in one afternoon by supernatural provision (2 Kings 4:7). There is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). I am blessed coming in and going out (Deuteronomy 28:6), and the Lord commands blessing on my storehouses (Deuteronomy 28:8). Debt cancellation and supernatural provision are mine NOW.
The Father isn't withholding blessing until your credit score improves. He's the One who FORGAVE the 10,000 talent debt (billions) in one moment, who erased the widow's impossible debt in an afternoon, who runs toward you with the robe and ring while you're still in the red.
