"Church people judge my family so God must be disappointed too"
How it sounds in your head: I see how people look at us differently now. The careful questions. Not getting invited to leader families' houses anymore. If the church feels awkward, God must feel the same way.
"The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."
-- Psalm 34:18Conflating religious people's discomfort with God's actual heart toward the brokenhearted.
She's experiencing real social consequences from imperfect humans and projecting their limitations onto God.
She'd had five husbands and was living with a sixth man—thetown outcast who fetched water at noon to avoid judgment. Jesus sought HER out, revealed Himself as Messiah to HER first, and made her the first evangelist. Instant transformation from most judged to most empowered.
I REFUSE the lie that church people's judgment reflects God's heart. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted—not distant, not awkward, NEAR. Where religion steps back, God runs forward. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. I am not defined by divorce, not marked, not second-class. I am pursued, delighted in, chosen. The BARAK blessing surrounds me with favor. People's opinions don't define my standing with God—Jesus' blood does.
The Father is seeking YOU out like Jesus sought the woman at the well—not to condemn your family's brokenness but to reveal Himself as Living Water in the middle of it.
