"Bad dreams mean the devil is attacking me because I'm not praying enough."
How it sounds in your head: I keep having nightmares and I know I haven't been reading my Bible or praying like I should. Maybe if I was a better Christian, this wouldn't happen.
"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep."
-- Psalm 127:2Religious teaching that protection is earned through spiritual disciplines instead of covenant.
She connects her inconsistent devotional life with increased nightmares and assumes cause-and-effect. Church teaching often links prayer to protection, making her feel responsible.
Elijah was so depressed he wanted to die, gave up, and fell asleep. God didn't rebuke him for not praying—He sent an ANGEL with FOOD, let him sleep MORE, then fed him AGAIN. God met exhaustion with rest and provision, not discipline.
I REFUSE the lie that my protection depends on my prayer life. IT IS WRITTEN: He gives His BELOVED sleep, and I am His beloved. My safety is based on HIS faithfulness, not my consistency. IT IS WRITTEN: He who keeps me will neither slumber nor sleep. He's awake so I don't have to be anxious. The BARAK blessing doesn't require me to earn it through devotions—it protects me because of COVENANT. Abraham lied twice and was still protected. I am covered by something better than my performance—the BLOOD OF JESUS.
The Father isn't withholding peaceful sleep until you pray more—He's inviting you to rest BECAUSE He never stops watching over you. You're not earning protection; you're learning to receive the peace He's already given.
