"At my age, it's too late to start believing differently about God's character."
How it sounds in your head: I've thought about God one way for eight decades. My theology is set in stone. Even if there's more grace than I thought, I'm too old to rewire my brain or relearn who He is. This is who I'll die believing He is.
"Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
-- Lamentations 3:22-23Religious fatalism masquerading as humility, when God reveals Himself fresh every morning regardless of age.
Neural pathways formed over 80 years feel permanent, and she fears her mind can't handle theological shifts. Dementia concerns make learning anything new terrifying, especially something as foundational as God's nature.
Moses was 80 years old, settled into shepherding, when God appeared in fire and revealed His name 'I AM' for the first time. Eighty became the START of Moses' greatest revelation and work, not the end. New began at 80.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm too old for fresh revelation of God's character. IT IS WRITTEN that His mercies are new EVERY MORNING—not just in youth but right now at my age. IT IS WRITTEN that God told Israel to forget former things because He was doing something NEW. Moses was 80 when God appeared in the burning bush and revealed His name. Abraham received the covenant promise at 75 and became a father at 100. I stand in the BARAK blessing that transformed liars into patriarchs. My age doesn't limit God's ability to show me more of who He is. Every sunrise carries fresh compassion. Today, I can know Him better than yesterday.
The Father isn't waiting for you to die with your old theology intact—He's eager to reveal more of His goodness in whatever days remain. He gave Moses the burning bush at 80; He's not done revealing Himself to you.
