"At my age, dating is humiliating. I've missed the season for romance."
How it sounds in your head: Dating apps feel pathetic at 50. The games, the small talk, the vulnerability of starting over—it's for younger people. You feel ridiculous imagining yourself nervous about a first date, texting like a teenager, navigating modern dating culture. Romance is for people with their whole lives ahead of them, not men with gray hair and reading glasses.
"So I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the crawling locust, the consuming locust, and the chewing locust, My great army which I sent among you."
-- Joel 2:25Cultural lie that romance and new beginnings have age limits, contradicting God's timelessness.
You see dating portrayed as a young person's game. The thought of vulnerability at this stage—explaining your life, your baggage, your history—feels exhausting and embarrassing. You've been to weddings where you're twice the age of the groom. The world tells you to settle into resigned singleness, not hopeful pursuit.
Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90—decades past childbearing—when God gave them Isaac. Sarah literally LAUGHED at the idea of 'pleasure' at her age. Yet God made a way, restored what was impossible, and they experienced joy in a season the world said was over.
I REFUSE the lie that I've missed my season for romance. IT IS WRITTEN that God restores the years the locust has eaten—there are NO age limits on His goodness. I am NOT too old—I am EXACTLY where God wants me. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 92:14 that the righteous 'shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.' My best days are NOT behind me—they are AHEAD of me. The BARAK blessing doesn't expire at 50—Abraham received his greatest blessing at 100. I declare that new beginnings, joy, and romance are available to me RIGHT NOW because God's mercies are new every morning.
The Father doesn't see you as past your prime—He sees you as perfectly positioned for the next chapter. Like He did with Sarah, He's about to bring joy and laughter in a season the world wrote off, because He delights in defying timelines.
