"At 45 and single, I've missed God's best for my life"
How it sounds in your head: Everyone else got picked. The good ones are taken. I'm too old now, too set in my ways, too damaged. I'll end up the old lady with cats while everyone else has grandchildren. God's promise of 'good plans' must have been for other people.
"For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth."
-- Isaiah 54:5Religion teaches marriage as God's A-plan and singleness as consolation prize, implying you failed to attract or keep someone.
Every wedding invitation feels like evidence. Your coupled friends can't relate to your life anymore, and their pitying looks confirm something must be wrong. Biologically, doors are closing, making this feel permanent and punishing.
Anna was widowed after only 7 years of marriage, then single for 84 YEARS—yet she's honored in Scripture as the one who recognized the Messiah and spoke of Him to all who waited for redemption. Her singleness wasn't her disqualification; it was her platform for unprecedented spiritual authority and intimacy with God.
I REFUSE the lie that singleness means I missed God's best. IT IS WRITTEN that my Maker is my husband—the LORD of hosts Himself. I am not forgotten, not leftover, not second-choice. I am the BRIDE OF CHRIST, purchased with blood, crowned with favor. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 84:11 that no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. If marriage were my 'good thing' right now, nothing could stop it—not my age, not my past, not timing. I walk in the BARAK blessing of Abraham—blessed coming in and going out, blessed in the city and in the field. My completeness is IN CHRIST, not in a relationship status. I am whole, chosen, and living in God's perfect will RIGHT NOW.
The Father isn't withholding marriage as punishment or waiting for you to become 'ready enough.' He sees you as COMPLETE in Christ this moment, lacking nothing, and if partnership is part of your story, He's already prepared it with the same supernatural speed that brought Rebekah to Isaac—the RIGHT one at the RIGHT time without human striving. Right now, He's celebrating the intimacy you have with Him that married people often sacrifice in distraction.
