"Asking God for things I want is bratty and entitled"
How it sounds in your head: When I pray for specific things I want—not just needs—I feel like a spoiled brat. God has more important things to care about than my desires. I should only ask for serious stuff, not things that make me happy.
"Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."
-- Psalm 37:4Source: religious teaching that painted God as irritated Father, not delighted Daddy who loves giving
She's beginning to separate from parental dependence and questioning if her desires matter. Religion has portrayed God as too busy or too serious for her 'small' wants, making relationship transactional rather than relational.
God came to young Solomon and said, 'Ask! What shall I give you?' No restrictions, no 'only spiritual things'—an open invitation to ask for anything. When Solomon asked for wisdom, God gave that PLUS riches and honor he didn't even request.
I REFUSE the lie that asking for my desires makes me bratty or entitled. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father GIVES me the desires of my heart as I delight in Him—He's not irritated by my requests but delighted by them. I am His daughter, not an employee begging a boss. IT IS WRITTEN to ask and I will receive, that my joy may be full—my joy matters to Him. He's the Father who runs toward me with abundance, not the one counting my requests as burdens.
Your Father isn't rolling His eyes at your desires—He's leaning in, asking 'What do you want?' like He did with Solomon. He already knows, but He loves when His daughters ask boldly, knowing every good gift flows from His delight in giving.
