"Anxiety proves I don't really trust God like I should"
How it sounds in your head: Pastor said 'don't be anxious about anything' but my chest is tight and I can't breathe before tests. If I had real faith, I wouldn't panic. My anxiety is proof my faith is fake and God sees right through me.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
-- Matthew 6:34Religious misuse of Philippians 4:6 as a command instead of an invitation, making anxiety a sin instead of a symptom.
He hears 'be anxious for nothing' preached as a command his body refuses to obey. Every panic attack feels like failing a faith test, proving he's not spiritual enough for God to accept.
Jehoshaphat faced three armies and was AFRAID—he admitted it openly. God didn't rebuke his fear; instead God said 'the battle is not yours but God's' and gave complete victory while Jehoshaphat's army just sang worship.
I REFUSE the lie that anxiety is evidence of failed faith. IT IS WRITTEN that Jehoshaphat was afraid facing armies but God called him beloved and fought for him anyway. My anxiety is a PHYSICAL RESPONSE in a fallen world, not a SPIRITUAL VERDICT on my relationship with the Father. IT IS WRITTEN there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus—that includes no condemnation for panic attacks. I am the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ whether my nervous system cooperates or not. The blessing of Abraham is mine by COVENANT, not by calm—God protected Abraham the anxious liar who said Sarah was his sister out of fear.
The Father sees your panic attack at 2am and He's not grading your trust level—He's already climbing into bed next to you like a dad comforting a scared child. Your anxiety doesn't change His finished work on the cross.
