"All the money we spent on Christian school and mission trips was wasted—they rejected it all anyway."
How it sounds in your head: We sacrificed so much. The tuition bills. The mission trips. The youth retreats. The Christian camps every summer. We went without so they could have a godly foundation. And they threw it all away. Every dollar, every sacrifice—wasted. They rejected everything we invested in them.
"For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it."
-- Isaiah 55:10-11Consumer mindset applied to faith, viewing spiritual investment as transactional—expecting guaranteed return on investment in children's spirituality.
She tallies the literal cost—thousands in tuition, mission trip fees, church activities. The financial sacrifice was real and measurable. The rejection of those investments feels like money thrown in the garbage.
Paul reminded Timothy of the 'genuine faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice.' Timothy's spiritual foundation came from childhood Scriptures taught by his mother and grandmother—seeds planted early that bore fruit in his adult ministry, becoming pastor of Ephesus.
I REFUSE the lie that our investment in our child was wasted. IT IS WRITTEN that God's word does not return void—every seed we planted is working beneath the surface right now. The Word they heard, the worship they experienced, the Scriptures they memorized are hidden in their heart, waiting for the season of harvest. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 55:10-11 that His word accomplishes what He pleases. Just as Timothy's childhood Scriptures from Lois and Eunice became the foundation of his pastoral ministry, just as the prodigal's memory of the father's house became his road map home, every investment we made is stored up for the moment of return. Nothing is wasted in God's economy. The BARAK blessing guarantees return on every seed sown—pressed down, shaken together, running over. Our sacrifices were NOT in vain—they are compound-interest investments in eternity.
The Father doesn't waste any investment made in His kingdom—He multiplies it. Every Scripture your child heard is a seed stored in their spirit, and when the soil of their heart becomes ready, those seeds will explode into harvest you never imagined.
