"After what they did to me, I can't trust anyone again - especially not at my age."
How it sounds in your head: I don't have time left to recover from another betrayal. My heart is too fragile now. Everyone I've trusted has either died, disappointed me, or walked away. It's safer to just keep everyone at arm's length until I die.
"When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up."
-- Psalm 27:10Enemy whisper after trauma, weaponizing age and accumulated pain to create isolation.
Decades of life have produced real disappointments, and physical frailty makes emotional wounds feel more dangerous. The statistical reality that friends are dying and time is limited makes trust feel like an unaffordable risk.
Naomi lost her husband and both sons, became bitter, told people to call her Mara (bitter), felt God had dealt harshly with her. God gave her Ruth's loyalty and a grandson (Obed, King David's grandfather) - her latter days MORE blessed than her beginning, all in her old age.
I REFUSE the lie that my age disqualifies me from experiencing trustworthy relationships. IT IS WRITTEN that when father and mother forsake me, the Lord takes me up - and I am TAKEN UP right now. I am not defined by who walked away; I am defined by the Father who runs toward me. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, in my latter days as in my former. The BARAK blessing over Abraham's seed protects me even when others fail me. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, positioned in perfect love that casts out ALL fear. Trust flows FROM His trustworthiness IN me, not from my ability to discern perfectly.
The Father sees the knife still in your back and He's not asking you to pull it out yourself. He's already running toward you with the ring, the robe, and the sandals - while you still smell like the betrayal. Your latter glory will be greater than your former.
