"Addiction is in my genes, so I'll always struggle with it."

How it sounds in your head: Dad's an alcoholic. Uncle died of an overdose. My brother's in rehab again. Everyone says addiction is genetic, and I already feel the pull stronger than my friends do. I'm wired for this. It's in my blood.

2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."

-- 2 Corinthians 5:17
Enemy whispers: Addiction is in your DNA forever. BUT IT IS WRITTEN: 2 Corinthians 5:17 - 'If anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW CREATION; old things have PASSED AWAY; behold, ALL THINGS have become new.' You're not an 'addict in recovery' - you're a NEW CREATION. Your old genetic code doesn't define you; Christ's resurrection life does. God didn't give you a 'management plan' - He gave you a NEW NATURE. You didn't inherit addiction; you inherited FREEDOM.
Quick Truth: LIE: Addiction is genetic. TRUTH: You're a new creation - 'Old things passed away... all things become new' (2 Cor 5:17)

Enemy uses family patterns of addiction to create identity as 'addict' and override the truth of being a new creation in Christ.

Why this feels true:

He's seen addiction destroy family members and feels stronger temptation than peers, making genetic predisposition seem scientifically certain. Culture treats addiction as a lifelong disease you 'manage' but never escape.

Mark 5:1-20
The Gadarene demoniac

Violently insane, naked, living in tombs, cutting himself, possessed by a LEGION of demons, so strong chains couldn't hold him - totally enslaved and hopeless. Jesus spoke ONE WORD, and INSTANTLY he was 'sitting and clothed and in his right mind' - complete transformation in one encounter, no rehab, no process, no relapse.

Speak this out loud

I REFUSE the lie that addiction is my genetic destiny. IT IS WRITTEN that I am a NEW CREATION in Christ - old things PASSED AWAY, all things BECOME NEW. I am not defined by my family tree but by the TREE OF LIFE, the cross of Jesus Christ. Any genetic predisposition was nailed to that cross with Jesus. IT IS WRITTEN in John 8:36 that 'if the Son makes you free, you shall be free INDEED' - not 'free-ish' or 'managing' but FREE. The BARAK blessing breaks every chain, every bondage, every generational curse. I am not an addict; I am a son of the Most High, filled with the Spirit of power and self-control. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and addiction has no legal right to God's temple.

But God actually:

Your Father isn't waiting to see if you fall into addiction like your family - He's already made you a completely new creation with a new nature that doesn't crave bondage but craves freedom. While you're worried about genetic predisposition, He's already severed every generational cord at the cross and given you the spirit of POWER and SELF-CONTROL.
