"You're alone. Everyone has moved on with their lives and forgotten you."
How it sounds in your head: The phone doesn't ring. The visits get shorter and less frequent. Your kids have their own lives. You're an afterthought. A duty. They're waiting for you to die so they can get back to normal. You're alone in this room, alone in this process, alone.
"Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, yet I will not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands; your walls are continually before Me."
-- Isaiah 49:15-16Abandonment spirit using natural life rhythms to deny God's constant presence and covenant loyalty.
The empty chair where your wife sat. The hours between visitors. The silence. The loneliness is crushing and constant. You can go days hearing only nurses' voices.
Elijah felt utterly alone - 'I alone am left' - hiding in a cave, suicidal, convinced everyone abandoned him. God said 'I have reserved 7,000 who have not bowed.' Elijah's FEELINGS of abandonment were real but FALSE. God was there, angels were feeding him, and he was never alone.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm alone. IT IS WRITTEN that God will NOT forget me - I am inscribed on the palms of His hands. IT IS WRITTEN that Elijah felt alone but God had reserved thousands, plus angels to feed him. My feelings are real but the TRUTH is greater: I am never alone because He is with me. I am IN CHRIST, and nothing can separate me from His love. The BARAK blessing brings me into the city blessed, surrounded by His presence. I am the head and not the tail, chosen and held, never abandoned.
The Father who sent angels to feed Elijah in his isolation is running toward you with presence that transcends every empty room. While you count absent people, He's closer than He's ever been, whispering 'I see you, I'm here, you matter' in the silence.
