"When people praise my work, they're just being polite. They don't really mean it. They're managing me."
How it sounds in your head: You've learned to smile and say thank you when someone compliments your work, but inside, you're translating it into what you think they really mean. 'Good job' means 'adequate.' 'Well done' means 'met minimum expectations.' Real praise would sound different—more specific, more enthusiastic. These are just polite acknowledgments, maybe even strategic flattery to keep you motivated. They're managing you, not genuinely affirming you.
"The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, and a man is valued by what others say of him."
-- Proverbs 27:21Enemy accusation that steals even legitimate affirmation, combined with deep unworthiness that cannot receive genuine praise without translating it into something lesser.
You can point to times when praise felt formulaic, obligatory, or suspiciously generic. You've received 'good job' emails that felt like templates. The skepticism feels like wisdom—protecting yourself from being naive or misled about your actual performance.
Jonathan told David, 'You shall be king over Israel'—affirming David's calling and worth when David was hiding in caves, feeling like a fugitive. Jonathan's words weren't politeness; they were PROPHETIC CONFIRMATION of what God had already said, and David needed to RECEIVE them, not dismiss them.
I REFUSE the lie that all praise is just politeness or manipulation. IT IS WRITTEN that a man is valued by what others say of him—God uses genuine affirmation to CONFIRM what He's doing through me. I will not reject every compliment as insincere, stealing from myself the Father's validation spoken through others. I am His workmanship, and the fruit He produces through me is REAL. IT IS WRITTEN that no good tree bears bad fruit. I am a branch in the Vine; the fruit is genuine, and so is the affirmation. Under the BARAK, favor surrounds me, and I RECEIVE the good reports as God's confirmation, not deception.
The Father isn't using others to manipulate you with false flattery—He's running toward you through their words, declaring, 'What they see is REAL. The fruit is genuine. RECEIVE the affirmation I'm sending through them instead of translating every compliment into an insult.' Your work matters. The praise is real.
