"When my body and mind fully fail, everyone will finally see I was ordinary all along—nothing special."
How it sounds in your head: Right now I can still maintain some dignity, some competence. But when dementia comes, when full dependence arrives, the mask comes completely off. They'll see there was never anything remarkable underneath—just an average man who had a good run.
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever."
-- Hebrews 13:8Enemy lies that identity is tied to cognitive function and physical capacity rather than covenant position as beloved son.
Lifetime of defining self by capability makes anticipated total dependence feel like final exposure. Watching others decline seems to preview your own unmasking as unremarkable.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, hiding in obscurity, calling himself a 'dead dog'—utterly powerless and dependent. King David brought him to the palace, gave him PERMANENT place at the royal table, and restored all land IMMEDIATELY based on covenant with his grandfather, not his capacity. Identity by covenant, not capability.
I REFUSE the lie that mental or physical failure will expose me as ordinary. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever—my identity in Him is UNCHANGING regardless of cognitive or physical capacity. I am the righteousness of God in Christ whether I remember it or not. IT IS WRITTEN that nothing can separate me from the love of God in Christ Jesus—not dementia, not dependence, not decline. The BARAK blessing of Abraham is mine by COVENANT, not capability. I have a permanent place at the Father's table based on whose I am, not what I can do. The Father runs toward me NOW and ALWAYS as a beloved son, never an ordinary man.
The Father doesn't see a man who will be exposed as ordinary when capacity fails—He sees a beloved son with permanent seat at the royal table, and He's running toward you NOW celebrating that your identity was NEVER tied to what you could do but WHO you are in Christ, unchanging forever.
